BIO

Christina Wellor’s affair with sex writing began at university, although not before some initial confusion about how to channel her many interests. Her studies lead her in the direction of three passions – first Theatre, then Psychology and finally Creative Writing, where she felt at last she could settle and happily excel at what she was best at. Writing is, after all, “…the ultimate narcissistic endeavour. Who wouldn’t enjoy freely giving their opinion and making sense of life either directly through a column, or more indirectly through a fictional hero?”

Being a non-conformist deviant at heart with a strong sense of her own sexuality, she penned her dissertation on The Censorship of Erotic Literature, interviewing Erotic Review editor Jamie Maclean and authors Jackie Collins and Mitzi Szereto – probing for their thoughts on the direction and public opinion of sex writing. She gained a 1st for her efforts and a new devotee of intelligent, erotic musings was born.

When it came to being published, she quickly grew bored with ‘gaining experience’ by contributing lifestyle features to the local press about interior design and weddings. A weekly column for local Nottingham paper The Topper, gave her a taste for pushing social boundaries (albeit gingerly, in a family newspaper). It was this and her preoccupation with sex writing that lead her to start blogging in 2008.

Entitled “What’s the Big Secret?”, her first few entries tentatively (and anonymously) played with the notion that what people hate to discuss, they love to read about – in particular, sex. Her unmistakable writing style, a combination of self deprecating wit, keen observation and an unforgiving approach; has lent itself to an ever expanding portfolio of blog content and column writing on delicate subjects that would make other writers wince. As her blog began to focus more on sexuality and the role of the strong, confident female in a world focused on looks and objectification; her readership grew and she began to openly promote her writing through friends, social networking sites and online forums.

The blog gained the attention of GQ editor Dylan Jones, who asked Christina to revamp a tired online sex column featured on GQ’s website. After a year of advisory contributions, dissecting the etiquette of things like sex toys for couples, threesomes and oral sex (all for a male and very proper readership), she found her true writing voice.

With an intelligent take on ‘filth’, she continues to openly analyse society’s bizzare combination of fascination and embarrassment about sexual expression, in addition to reviewing products and providing guest blogs advice and comment for numerous brands, print publications and websites; including GQThe Erotic Review, SoFemininePride Magazine, The Sunday Herald and Take a Break. Christina regularly works alongside clinical and psychological experts in the field of sexuality and has reviewed and promoted products for Coco de Mer, Agent Provocateur, Lelo, Lovehoney, Ann Summers and many others.

Christina also covers entertainment reviews and writes interview features for the Nottingham Post under another name, which has given her the opportunity to interview and occasionally share a glass of champers with bands like The Script, Chase & Status and Shed 7 as well as the violinist virtuoso and Christina’s childhood hero – Nigel Kennedy, who is, in her words, “lovable and a complete fucking hoot!”

She lives in her beloved birthplace of Nottingham with four rescued house rabbits, two dogs and her boyfriend of two years, James. They’re expecting their first baby in October.

I LOVE…

ALL TIED UP…

SILKY PLEASURES FROM LELO OF SWEDEN

Ikea aside, there’s something distinctly sexy about anything Swedish. And LELO of Sweden is no exception. A luxury brand of designer intimate goods, LELO launched in 2003 and make all their gorgeous products in house. Since then they’ve expanded out of Stockholm and have an international presence in over 40 countries. It’s no surprise they became so successful, their products are a cut above most others on the market, crafted with care and packaged with love. Shop with LELO and you’ll feel well and truly spoiled.

I’ve been pampered with their Flickering Touch Massage Oils containing gold dust and I’m simply in love with my little Mia 2 Lipstick Vibe. But because I’m also a big fan of having my freedom and sight compromised in the bedroom, I thought it was time to put their silk Boa Pleasure Ties and Intima Blindfold to the test.

What I love about these products are how gorgeous they look and how comfortable they are to wear. The silk Boa Pleasure Ties feel really soft against your skin (wrists or ankles) and the metal loops that keep the fabric securely in place, make the experience feel more luxurious, intimate and refined than handcuffs. As if the beautifully patterned silk isn’t opulent enough, the ends of the ties feature a compartment weighted with freshwater pearls; so you can hang them the other side of a closed door and they hold a captive in place securely. It’s a simple but ingenious idea, encouraging you to break the routine and take your escapades away from the bed. Plus you never need to worry about losing a key – unless of course, you decide to lock the door!

LELO Boa Pleasure Ties

Then there’s the Intima  Blindfold, made from matching silk. It’s already shaped and elasticated at the back so it stays in place, with long additional ties to tighten it for a perfect fit. If you haven’t experimented with sex and sight deprivation before, you don’t know what you’re missing. Sensations feel even more intense when you can’t anticipate what’s about to happen. If 50 Shades of Grey didn’t have you wondering what all the fuss is about, it’s high time you experimented with bondage and blindfolding for exquisite massage, oral sex, penetration and, if you’re feeling brave – perhaps some spanking and whipping.

LELO Intima Silk Blindfold

I caught up with Kerri Middleton, LELO Account Manager for the UK, to ask her what’s trending in the luxury adult product world and if recent literary works of erotica really have breathed new life into bondage play.

“50 Shades opened many people’s eyes to the possibilities and potential that pleasure products offer, and many, many couples were buying items like handcuffs, blindfolds and also vibrating pleasure beads; which experienced a sizeable spike in demand.”

So is it just a fad?

“I don’t think so – many customers who bought LELO accessories both before and after the 50 Shades sales surge, are now repeat customers; who may buy, say, a blindfold after discovering what fun their pair of handcuffs were. We’re interested to see what happens when the film hits cinemas in the next year or two!”

Whatever it prompts the public to get up to, LELO will definitely have something to satisfy. I asked Kerri if there are any exciting new products we can expect from them over the next year:

“What we can tell you is that our recent launches of revamped LELO items and improvements on our classic and much-loved designs, will continue. In addition to that, we’ve got new items being developed that are truly unlike anything out there. They’re very exciting, but we can’t give that away just yet!”

I for one, can’t wait to find out. But for now, there’s still plenty of fun to be had from my ties and blindfold. So if you’ll excuse me…

LELO’s Boa Pleasure Ties are £56 and the Intima Silk Blindfold is £39. They’re both available in red, purple and black, to suit all boudoirs and personalities.

ANIMAL RIGHTS

AN OPEN LETTER TO MY READERS…

“My Twitter followers will know how devoted I am to promoting animals’ rights and ending their pain at the hands of human beings. It’s probably the cause I feel most passionate about, above all others.

I’m ashamed to say that I’ve only been a vegetarian for nine years. Now I realise the severe animal suffering and violence that occurs on a daily basis, all over the world, in the name of meat production and other selfish human pursuits; I can’t imagine how people turn a blind eye, let alone the fact that I ever did.

The fact that I used to be one of those people does, however, give me the understanding to connect effectively with people on the issue of animal rights and help them realise that we’re all responsible for change in the world, a small step at a time – if that’s what it takes!

shauniebun_border

The ‘drop in the ocean’ argument is the one I am most regularly faced with – ‘what difference will it make if I care and stop buying meat, wearing fur, or supporting animal testing through my brand choices? I’m just one person and it won’t stop.’ What people probably don’t realise is the amount of support the cause of animal rights has, globally.

As it stands, there are more than 3.6 million non meat eaters in the UK alone. Support and commitment to this obvious cause grows on a daily basis; so using numbers as an excuse to remain blissfully ignorant, angers me after a while.

No-one pleads ignorant to the plight of children victimised by violence and rape and pretends it doesn’t matter. Likewise, no-one openly says it doesn’t matter if millions of people die painfully from cancer. Why don’t animals deserve the same consideration for their welfare and quality of life?

Last year for the first time, I publicly opened up about my feelings for animals and my decision to be a vegetarian in a very outspoken blog. It was something I should have done a long time ago, because the effect it’s had on people that have read it has been profound. I honestly don’t think people face up to the reality of the suffering they contribute to. I was determined to make people see  the meat industry for what it is and ask themselves if they can really stand to be a part of it. In the cold light of day, it turns out many couldn’t cope with their guilt and hypocrisy once they allowed themselves to absorb the facts. The simple fact is, I have converted an astounding number of friends, colleagues and acquaintances to vegetarianism and spreading love and respect for animals continues to be one of my greatest achievements and goals in life.

If you call yourself an animal lover and claim to hate suffering but you haven’t already make some basic lifestyle choices to back this up, I would simply ask you to think carefully. At the very least, you’re doing your conscience and self respect an injustice.

Spread the love and please support charities like Animal Aid by sharing their updates, news and research on animal welfare issues and by donating money to their work whenever you can.

Love,

Christina x

HAPPY NEW YEAR

7th January 2014

So 2013 is behind us now, what a year it was – I turned 30 and became a Mum, pretty scary (and fun) in many ways! I want to wish everyone a happy new year and every success in keeping their resolutions. I’ve started writing my first book on sex and relationships and hope to have it finished by this time next year. Watch this space… I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

BUMP FINALLY ARRIVES!

23rd October 2013

My bump finally materialised on 9th October and we welcomed baby Leonardo James into the world! He weighed a neat little 7lbs and we’re so in love with him! Thanks for everyone’s good wishes. He’s such a treasure, James and I feel so lucky to be a Mum and Dad :)

MY BUMP AT 38 WEEKS

2nd October 2013

It seems no self respecting MILF in the making can be without a hot bump shot. And so at 38 weeks pregnant I thought I probably ought to jump on the bandwagon before it’s too late! I admit, I’ve not really enjoyed pregnancy and feel less than my physical best, but Jen Mason did me proud and I really love the result. It’ll be a great reminder of my bump, when I’ve returned to normal.

Now it’s only a week to go ’til my due date and I have to say, I am petrified…

BREAST SURVEYS: LET’S GET DOWN TO THE TITTY GRITTY!

12 August 2013

I’m currently researching an article for the Erotic Review about the role of breasts in today’s society, focusing on their role within human nurturing and sexuality.  I’d love your opinion on how you feel about your own breasts as a female; or for men, how you feel about other women’s and your partner’s breasts.

There are a number of different surveys to complete to suit each respondent, please choose the one that applies to you:

PETITION TO END ANIMAL TESTING IN THE UK

7th July 2013

Animals need your help to end the misery inflicted upon them in their millions, in the name of medical and pharmaceutical research. Results harvested from animal research are often inconclusive and can’t be accurately applied to humans, which means not only is it time consuming, but it’s also pointless and wasteful. testingpics Regardless of the inefficiencies, it is not our place to torture animals for our own gain and after a landmark victory where animal testing for cosmetics has been banned in the EU, it’s time to end all animal testing and make way for kinder and more trusted alternatives. The UK coalition Government promised to make every effort to phase out all animal testing, however last year, animal tests were up by nearly 9%. Please sign this petition to encourage the UK Government to take action and honour their word  - care2logo Read my blog on animal testing for more info.

SEXY PHOTOSHOOT

18th July 2013

James and I were recently treated to a photoshoot by my friend and talented photographer Jen Mason, who gave us this gorgeous picture that I am so in love with! It’s a bit Posh & Becks but who cares? I’m sure some people will roll their eyes and do the “Oh for God’s sake…” thing. But I don’t care! When we move house I plan to have it mounted on our bedroom wall. No, really. Thanks Jen x Chrissie&JamesBW

IT’S DEFINITELY A BOY!

7th June 2013

James and I went to the hospital today for our second scan, and were positively flashed at by our unborn child! The nurse asked us if we wanted to know its sex. Before we had chance to answer, he splayed his little legs and would you credit it – two testicles as clear as day, were there for all to see! “I’m glad you said you wanted to know, because I’d have a problem disguising those!” said the nurse. Here he is (a more modest view) – Baby

James seems to be very proud of his son’s balls. It must be a man thing. We went out afterwards to buy his first babygro and then celebrated with Italian food and a little prosecco. Meatballs were off the menu, they didn’t do quorn. We’re so excited to welcome the little man into the world in October! (I can’t wait to be honest – I’m not a fan of being pregnant.)
